Our Story
Hello there and welcome to Salty Rose Botanicals! It's so nice to meet you! My name is Dannii, and simply put, I create pretty things that smell nice.
The journey to get here has been an interesting one. When I first envisioned Salty Rose Botanicals, I had the idea that I would create a niche line of candles inspired by my favorite place to be...the ocean. The company name, in particular, was inspired by the beach roses that grow near the coastline. Among them the "Rosa Rugosa", nicknamed the "Salt-Rose", a plant especially resistant to a number of diseases roses commonly suffer. I found the strength and resiliency of this plant that grows in less than ideal circumstances, but whose blooms brighten up even the most overcast of days, an inspiring metaphor for life, and hence the name was born. From there I started researching and testing fragrance oils, wicks, waxes, and jars. I began to put together a selection of carefully chosen fragrance oils for candles and wax melts, to bring to life the different scents of ocean florals and salty sea air, hints of coconut from tropical beaches, and crisp, woody notes reminiscent of the trees and mountains along the Pacific Northwest coastline. I was on my way!
During the earlier days of developing my candle line, however, I stumbled upon a small soapmaking kit I received a few months earlier but had tucked away in a closet and had forgotten about. On a whim I made a couple bars of lavender and lemon goat milk soap, and it was game over, I was hooked. I was flooded with ideas and excited by the diversity of what I could create using different soapmaking techniques and ingredients. From there I struggled to decide what the path forward was going to be, as I had invested so many hours already working towards building my vision for a niche coastal candle line. And so, like life often does, my vision for Salty Rose Botanicals took a turn. I reevaluated my plan, decided to dream a little bigger, widened my vision and forged the path forward.
The ocean is a vast and diverse place from which much of life comes. The warm Pacific waves that lap against the white sands of Hawaii's North Shore, the crystal clear water of the beaches in the Maldives, and even the frigid dark northernmost waters of the Arctic are all part of the same World Ocean. In my quest to form a niche, I found my way to something bigger and more diverse. The Salty Rose Botanicals name stayed the same, and you will find some of those coastal-inspired scents from my original vision here. SRB has become so much more already and our journey is just beginning. I hope you will enjoy all that we create.
Our products are formulated using premium paraben/phthalate-free fragrance oils or all-natural essential oils. In the case of soap or other bath and body products, they are "clean" scents that are skin-safe. In addition, we strive to do our part as a small business and creator to limit plastics and single use containers as much as possible. Much of our packaging is biodegradable, as we have opted for plant-based cellophane wraps and paper containers that can be composted over plastics. For the few bath and body items, as well as candles, that you will find in glass, metal or plastic jars and containers, it is our hope that you will repurpose or upcycle these rather than sending them to a landfill. If you are located in the Treasure Valley area, we will be happy to take these items back so we may sanitize and reuse/repurpose them. For shipping, you will find that we reuse things like bubble wrap and packing peanuts from our supply orders to try to reduce our carbon footprint even more. We have two homes - the earth and our bodies - let's take care of them. ♥
